My goal here is to show some nice objects and facts related to the movie Blade Runner. Nothing more.
To do it, I don’t need bells & whistles. Only content, I think.
Let’s go.
In the beginning
In some day circa 80’s I’ve watch a movie in the TV. It was Blade Runner, no other. Some years ago was released in theaters but I can’t watch it for personal circunstances. In the other hand, I’d read the original book before movie was released, so I had an idea about the movie, or some closer.
Time passed. DVD players appears. I’ve bought my very first DVD. Which one? Blade Runner Director’s Cut from Amazon US. I have no DVD player, My English was basic, but I want the movie. After all, I was engaged with it, I don’t know why from the very first time. Some years after Westwood released the adventure game. Poor game for the nowadays game parameters, but great at the time. Deckard was only a name inside the game. Copyright issues, as for decades… Anyway, McCoy was the Blade Runner and the star. Game was difficult in some steps, so I found some guide books. Nice. Also the Jetter’s sequels. Sequels from the movie not the original book… What? Ok. Let’s get them. Only three of them were in Spanish. No matter. My English was improving more and more.
One day I’ve discovered a blog devoted to a “religion” called Blade Runner. Humm… What happens there? Their creator, WEKurtz, was a terrific fan of the movie. Posts talks about a bunch of things but some of them talk about “props”. What is a prop? Oh man! They talks about atrezzo, original objets used in production! Props!! Some were identified yet, others not. A particular couple of them get my attention. A massive “portable” Radio-TV set and some walkie-talkies. First one appears upside down in Deckard’s bathroom in the ceiling. Oh my dog! Second ones appears inside the spinner cars. So… it’s possible to get them? Not the original ones… not… real ones like the original. In fact, they are produced in mass.
Ruin has begun. Welcome to ebay.
Several years, more than 40 countries and some money, yes… and the is a lot of stuff in my hands now. From some furniture to real autographs (signed live), from toys to hundreds of movie editions, digital stuff, replicas, luckily some real things from the movie… Yeah, a lot of stuff to be classified, categorized, explained and showed.
My Blade Runner was a subfolder in my personal site, joanfuste.com, for years. This was the site published in Paul Sammon’s Future Noir book. So, I preserved it for years, but content is outdated. After this, I’ve created MyBladeRunner.com with a new look. Blog alike. Years after site was renewed. And now, it’s the 3rd reborn site. I don’t want to deal with complex sites, layouts, slow structs and so on. WHY? It’s simple. Each item of my collection has a little or large story behind. Some of them have a picture or two, no more needed. Some others will need dozens of them, perhaps a video. All will have a description, origin, etc. But all of them is reduces to some kind of IMAGE and TEXT, nothing more. So I’ll try to keep it the simple way.
